Accuracy is everything when it comes to the perfect fit. That is why we use digital 3D scanning technology to capture every ridge and curve of your unique teeth. By scanning both the upper and lower teeth, we are able to transfer your optimized bite onto your custom mouthguard.

Bite Optimization

The bite refers to the relationship between the top and bottom teeth when biting down. We determine the optimal bite position of each individual athlete. By aligning and repositioning the jaw, we correct muscle imbalances, improve the neuromuscular response and increase oxygen intake using our proprietary method we call Alignment Repositioning Cushion, or ARC Technology.

3D Printing Technology

We build each guard individually using highly accurate 3D printers. Every mouthguard is shipped on a 3D printed set of your own teeth.

"How much do GuardLab mouthguards cost?"

GuardLab offers what we believe to be the best mouthguard on the market. We are committed to offering a bespoke product of the highest quality at an attainable price point for athletes everywhere. So let's cut to the chase – here's how pricing works:

For first time customers 17 and under, the price is $249.99 for the first guard and only $174.99 for any additional guard thereafter from the same scan.

For first time customers 18 and older, the price is $299.99 for the first guard and only $224.99 for any additional guard thereafter from the same scan.

The price of your 3D scan is INCLUDED with the purchase of your first guard. You won't need to pay for another scan unless you've had changes to your teeth that are significant enough to affect the fit of your guard. If you are re-scanned, the prices will reset to the above.

However, if you have a Healthfund there is a good chance it will cover the majority of the cost!

You could have as much as 90% of the cost of the GuardLab Neuromuscular Mouthguard, reimbursed... how cool is that!!

To see if you will get anything back from your health fund you need to call them and provide the following information:

"How long does an appointment take?"

Our scanning process is quick and simple. We schedule appointments for 30 minutes. Within 15-30 minutes, a GuardLab Certified Scan Technician uses a 3D scanner to capture images of your teeth, creating an exact digital model. We then align your bite to an optimized position, capture a final scan, and you're all done!

"Why do I need a custom mouth guard? My boil-and-bite one seems to be just fine."

You are right - the boil and bite guards are "just fine". However don't you want the best protection while you play?

A well-designed custom guard provides the highest level of protection because its design can be individualized for both the athlete and the sport. The precise 3D scanning ensures an EXCELLENT, snug fit and optimal comfort. This is particularly important for our youth athletes because the comfort of the guard increases the likelihood that it will be worn.

Now for the technical part: when we create your individual guard we optimize the position of your jaw to help absorb impact and dissipate pressure to assist in injury prevention. Additionally, it has been proven that this perfect alignment enhances flexibility, balance, strength and explosive power.

Pretty cool stuff, we know. We are stoked about what we do and hope you are too!

"So which guard is right for me?"

For non-contact sports (soccer, baseball, volleyball, etc.) we recommend our Lower Performance Guard. It fits nicely along the bottom teeth for a perfect fit. For contact sports (football, lacrosse, wrestling) you will need our Upper Protection Guard to keep your teeth protected while you are playing. It fits snugly along the top teeth so it won't fall out. We highly recommend our Night Recovery Guard for ALL athletes year round. The Recovery Guard allows you to get a better night's sleep, recover quicker and perform better the next day.

"So what happens during the scanning process? Does it hurt?"

No, it won't hurt and it's so easy! The device is small and comfortably fits within your mouth. The tech will take a few (thousand!) images of your teeth while you sit cozy in a chair and within a half hour, you're done. Bada boom, bada bing. And don't be surprised if your tech tries to talk to you, they are awfully friendly...

"How do I design my guard?"

This is the fun part! Spin it around and build your custom guard using our Configurator. You can select your favorite colors and add a logo, flag or text in different fonts. Some of the images may look smaller on screen than on the final product but rest assured, we do our best to enhance all images and will correct the ratio size to make the guards look superb!

"What if I still need help customizing my guard?"

We're happy to help! Some like their guards to be classic and simple, while others like to have their initials, nicknames or lucky numbers proudly displayed. You're welcome to choose a logo from one of our licensed partners or upload your own image. If your image needs a little help uploading, don't worry – please email us at help@guardlab.com and we'll do our best to accommodate your design to make your guard as unique as you are!

"Will my neuromuscular guard feel different?"

The first thing you will definitely notice is the excellent, snug fit of your custom guard. Accuracy is everything! Should the fit be less than perfect, please let us know and we'll work to correct it right away. You may also feel a subtle but powerful difference in the neuromuscular cushion (our ARC Technology™) that might take some getting used to. Our Protection and Performance Guards are designed to help align your jaw which subsequently can balance your head and neck muscles allowing for increased oxygen intake, increased clench absorption, improved balance and flexibility, and of course, ultimate protection. We recommend wearing your new guard during practices and training for up to 4-6 hours per day. Every individual will have a different adjustment period, but our research and testimonials show that our guards can improve your overall performance and offer the very best in protection.

"How soon can I get my guard?"

After your scanned event we do our very best to send you the guard within 5 business days. If you need it sooner, please give us a call as quickly as possible and let us know. We'll do our absolute best to work with your schedule.

"If I lose it, do I need to be rescanned?"

Nope. We keep your 3D-printed impression in our lab so if you need another one, just give us a call and we'll ship you a replacement guard within 24 hours. Now that's service!

"What if I have braces?"

No problem! We can make a mouthguard for those of you with braces as well.

"How often should I be rescanned?"

Since everyone's situation is unique, we recommend calling us if you're feeling any discomfort with your guard over any period of time. It could be 1, 3, 6, 9 months from now – just please call or email us. Your comfort and experience are important to us, and we will talk through options and next steps at that time.

"Can a mouthguard prevent concussions?"

Great question, but unfortunately the results are mixed within the industry.

With that said, based on our research, we can tell you that mouthguard materials by nature have shock absorption qualities. Sports Dentistry states the following:

"Mouthguards must be resilient and yet soft enough to absorb impact energy and reduce transmitted forces. When a properly-fitted and balanced custom-made mouthguard is in place then, there is a forward/downward movement of the jaw, thus opening the space between the glenoid fossa and the condylar head. This may reduce the opportunity for the condylar head to directly impact the glenoid fossa after an upward blow to the jaw, thus reducing the impact and acceleration forces to the entire temporal region."

Ok so that was a lot of technical jargon, but net-net, a mouthguard MIGHT assist in the prevention of concussions by creating space within the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) and reducing the impact to the jaw. There are no guarantees when it comes to concussions, but here at GuardLab, we are going to do our absolute best to keep you protected.

"How often should I be rescanned?"

"What about returning or exchanging my guards?"

Your guard is uniquely made just for you and we take pride in delivering a product at the quality you deserve. We will treat all requests for returns or exchanges on a case-by-case basis to help find the best solution for you. We have listed out some of our guidelines in the Terms of Service section if you would like to learn more.

Our Warranty policy is straightforward as we're committed to keeping you protected, always. If your mouthguard wears thin, tears or breaks at any time within the first year, discontinue use and contact us right away. You'll need to send in the defective mouthguard in order to be eligible for a replacement. If you are 17 and under, we recommend getting re-scanned for a new guard after 12 months. We also recommend a re-scan if you've had any major dental work done.

"Where can I see my order history or update my shipping address?"

"What if I don't see a GuardLab Certified Dentist in my area?"
